Hardware Policies

UNT System components across all campuses are individually financially responsible for computer purchases.  However, Information Technology Shared Services (ITSS) sets standards for these purchases.  ITSS and BSC Purchasing work together to procure the best prices for standard hardware, and to ensure that, in most cases, purchases are made through Historically Underutilized Businesses (HUB vendors). 

Although each Institution makes purchases separately, the UNT System as a whole participates in procurement processes that harness the bulk buying power of the organization so that the best prices on standard hardware are made available to everyone.

As stated in UNT System Regulation 06.2000, Personal Computer and Tablet Computer Standardization, computer purchases must follow the Standard Configurations.  Departments needing computer hardware above or outside of the recommended hardware must complete an ITSS Non-Standard Personal Computer and Tablet Computer Exception Form (unless the purchase is an Authorized Variance) and consult with local IT support staff at UNT, UNT Dallas, UNT HSC, or UNT System.  This is done to ensure that the hardware is compatible with our infrastructure and can be supported by local IT support.

Dell Recommended Hardware

Information Technology Shared Services (ITSS) recommends Dell computers.  A Dell Premier site was created by Dell specifically for UNT System and its compenent Institutions, and offers our UNT System standard desktop and laptop configurations.  These are minimum configurations and the standards listed apply to all computer purchases.  Please consult your local Helpdesk or ITSS at 940-565-4078 for any items needed that are not listed on the site.
